Google will buy Twitter. There, that’s my bold prediction for the year. Agree with me or not, we all know Twitter needs to find some money–fast. Here’s why I believe this acquisition is going to happen and why both companies will benefit.
I’ll say it again, Google will buy Twitter. Over the past several months, there has been a lot of speculation about the future of Twitter. And, just over a week ago, four top-level execs said “goodbye” on a Sunday night. The status quo isn’t going to deliver, and, despite a stock price free-fall, Twitter is simply too valuable to just go away.
Here’s Why Google Will Buy Twitter
- Google has an amazing advertising platform. Twitter does not. I’ll pick on YouTube just a bit here. Before Google acquired the Internet video site, YouTube was losing all kinds of money. YouTube is currently the second-largest search site on the web (second only to Google) and we’ve come to expect ads–no big deal, right?!
- Twitter owns the live video platform Periscope. Live video on YouTube isn’t the greatest–especially on mobile. Let’s face it, live video is here to stay and Periscope is awesome. Recently, Twitter announced that you may now watch the live Periscope videos inside the Twitter platform.
- Google is terrible at social media. Yes, there are features about Google Plus that were great (namely Google Hangouts), but Twitter is social, quick, and easy. No need to change the name, either. Twitter is great, it just needs some ad revenue.
- We all know the power of Google as a search engine. Twitter has an amazing search capability–especially when it comes to obtaining breaking news. As one, the two engines would (even more) rule the world of search.
Do you agree? I’d love to hear your thoughts about the future of Twitter. Do you think another company may be interested in acquiring the social network? Does Twitter have what it takes to survive on its own? I’d love to hear your comments on my Facebook Page, or we can even discuss on Twitter!
Speaking of Twitter, that’s the subject of this week’s Social Monday Podcast I co-host with Bob Turner with Social Flair Marketing. Have a listen and let me know what you think.
